Frequently Asked Questions

  • Where are you?
    Flipper's Swimming Academy operates from a private pool near Bromley Common, as this is not a public pool, you will be given directions once you have booked with Flipper's.

  • How long is a term?
    Each term is 11 weeks long with a week off in the middle for a half term break. There are 3 terms per year which run with the academic calendar. There is an additional Summer School which runs for 3 weeks in August, this is a refresher course to break up the long summer break.

  • How old must my baby be to start swimming?
    Babies must be either over 12 weeks old or over 12lbs in body weight before they can start swimming. They must also have had at least their first course of vaccinations. Babies cannot swim at Flipper's if you have chosen not to vaccinate your child... sorry! However, babies must also be under 1 year of age when they start these classes.

  • How long have you been teaching swimming?

  • How much is it per term?
    The cost is currently £115 per term per child while summer school three week terms cost £35. We do offer 10% discount for subsequent siblings of the first child to enrol. Additionally we offer "thank you" discounts for anyone who recommends a friend to Flippers Swim Academy if that friend enrols with us.

  • How do I pay?

  • How long is a lesson?
    Lessons run for half an hour on a weekly basis during term times.

  • What equipment do ?
    All equipment used for the class is provided. Merchandise is for sale on the poolside if you'd like to practice your skills on holiday or at other pools.

  • What should the babies wear in the pool?
    Babies must wear a double layer of; firstly a swimming nappy, these can be either disposables or reusables, sold widely in Boots, Mothercare etc. The second layer should be a snug-fitting swimming costume or trucks... these should be tight enough to restrict the flow of water through the nappy... in case we have a little accident!

  • Do you do weekend lessons?
    Unfortunately no weekend classes run at Flippers and there are no plans to include these in our schedule.

  • Do you offer private one on one tuition?

  • What happens if I am sick and unable to attend a class?
    If you or your child are ill for any reason and can not attend a class we will do our best to attempt to accommodate you and fit you in to the next available session you can attend. For further details on our policies and procedures regarding sickness please refer to our Terms and Conditions
